APPLICATION
We're so glad you're interested in us! Please copy the text box into a new comment and fill out our application. It's pretty long, we know, but that's because this is for your original work. If you're not sure where to start with your character we have a Bio of Doom shamelessly found years ago online, the origins of which we can't remember (but if you know where it came from, we will add in credit). The Bio of Doom is absolutely not required. Not even one bit. It's just there to help jump-start your thoughts.
A couple of notes for the application:
1) Your character will be assigned a roommate based on the gender they identify as. A transman will get a man for a roommate, just like a cis man.
2) There is a fully funded scholarship for as many people who need it. The donor is anonymous. If your character comes from a poor family, they will be granted tuition, food, and housing. For spending money they should check out the Work Study Opportunities.
You can submit an application whenever you like, however they will only be reviewed and accepted during the 1st through the 7th of the month.
For our opening set of applications we will be accepting people ALL OF JUNE through JULY 7TH.
Comments should have Player Name + Character Name in the title.
If you are REAPPLYING for a dropped character please put "ReApp" in the comment title along with player name + character name. If not everything fits, just character name + ReApp.

What are your hopes for your character: To be the best Admissions Specialist she can be, help students through the adjustment period, and take care of her found family; the staff, alumni, and students of Schutzhafen University.
Madb - Danaien Ysgolhaig
Character Name: Danaien Ysgolhaig
Identified Gender/pronouns: Female
Species: Gwragedd Annwn
Age: 17
Basics (IC)
Full Name: Daniean Marie Ysgolhaig
Family: David Ysgolhaig, Myfanwy Ysgolhaig. They met when father was ten and on vacation in Wales. Pen-pals through the years she moved to this country when he was eighteen and they dated for several years before marrying. Mother simply says “Older than your father” when asked her age. Gwragedd Annwn age when they want to, so she could be anything from a year older than him to a thousand years.
David has retired from farming and runs a produce stall in the Pike Place Market selling the organic produce that his sons grow. He is a loud, boisterous man with firey red hair, brown eyes, an amazing amount of freckles, and a face that makes up for it's ugliness by the force of his cheerful, happy personality.
Myfanwy edits textbooks online. She's just as loud and boisterous as her husband, but while he's ugly she's preternaturally beautiful with silken silver hair, a lithe body that looks like a centerfold even as she's chosen to grow old with her husband, glittering green eyes, and pre-Rahpaelite features. Due to her preternatural beauty, and the fact that it was passed to her daughters and one son, she, her daughters, and Ian all wear glamours to keep themselves safe.
Erik, Ian, and Tegeirian are my brothers. Erik is the eldest and like our father in looks and personality, Ian can only be described as dour with looks that favour our mother down the the preternaturally pretty aspects, and Tegeirian is a good middle between them. Erik and Tegeirian run an organic produce farm that is decently large and provides not only for our father's produce stall but also supplies a couple of fancy little grocery shops around the greater Seattle area. Ian is my twin and is in high-school. He's not popular, but well respected and included in our friend circle's activities even when I'm not around.
Alaw and Christine are my sisters. They are identical twins three years younger than my seventeen. The two are cheerful, good-natured troublemakers who delight in pranks. They have mother's good looks, but father's colouring and already attract far too much attention from adult men. They avoid the stereotypical one shy/one outgoing personality traits, instead both being outgoing and cheerful.
Friends: Alyssa is a cheerleader who decided on day one of kindergarten that I might be picked on and she was by God going to keep that from happening. She looks like a farm-girl, and floats like an angel when she moves.
Ellen is a six foot tall nerd of a girl who has a cheerful and open relationship with her sexuality and is gay as the day is long.
Eli, is an inch taller than she is, exactly ten months younger, and an excellent basketball player and member of a choir. Ellen and Eli are from a Hispanic human magical family with a gift for air magics.
Johnathon (never John or Jon) is African – not African American. He's from Kenya and only moved to America when he was sixteen. His family is very, very mixed blood in that there are at least six kinds of paranormal bloodlines in there along with a generous heaping of human. He's beautiful and already works as a professional model. Johnathon is in love with me, but understands that I don't share his feelings. It was awkward for several months but we got past it.
Sebastian is a werewolf whose family came from another world generations back, they're convergent evolution rather than infection. He's very pack-oriented and has claimed us as “his people”. I honestly worry about him, with me leaving Seattle for an indeterminate amount of time.
Where did you grow up?: Seattle, WA, U.S.A.
What was your childhood like?: Happy! As the first girl I was doted on by both parents and both of my older brothers. This is not to say that Ian was neglected, we were inseparable from early on. He and I got literally everything the same, if a “gendered” toy was brought into the house it was a gift for both of us. Ian, for instance, got much more use out of the pretend kitchen than I was ever interested in. My father taught me most of my practical knowledge, such as vehicle maintenance, cooking, how to shop in a smart way, how to communicate with humans. My mother taught me how to communicate with the local paranormal community, about my heritage as a Gwragedd Annwn, magics, and how to use fashion to get the desired reaction. Not necessarily how to attract someone, but also how to repel, how to present desired aspects of the self, etc.
What are your plans for the future?: Get a degree in library sciences, get a job at a library.
Personality (IC)
What do you feel are your greatest strengths: Once I get to know people I'm very good with them. I'm analytical. I'm very determined to do what is right.
What are your greatest flaws: Meeting new people makes my hands sweat. I don't always understand other people's emotions.
How do you treat others: I am awkward with people. I never know how to stand, how to talk to new people, what to talk about. I don't try to be rude, but sometimes it just happens and I don't know how to make it stop. I get less awkward, but also less polite, when I know and like someone. I'm painfully polite to people I dislike.
What do you look for in friends: People who are driven to do something. Even if it's something small, it doesn't have to be "change the world". They just need to have some kind of drive. People who are okay with how awkward I can be. People who like to laugh.
How do you handle confrontation: I am extremely conflict avoidant. That said I will argue for my principals if people are actively bashing them. If it's something about me personally, however, I just let it go.
What is a day off like for you: painfully get out of bed, after reading as much of the night as I can manage to sneak. Breakfast with my family, although it's usually something quick like cereal sometimes my father gets up early enough to make something special. Mother doesn't cook very well, and when it's her turn to provide food for the family she tends to either order in or magic up something.
Addictions: (anything from actual substances to adrenaline and popcorn addiction)
Are you a leader type, explain: No nope no way nu uh. I don't want to be around groups of people. I just want to do my thing, alone or with a very small group of people I already know.
Are you curious or cautious, explain: Both. I am both. I want to know, but I want to go about it safely. No charging in, just finding the safest way to get what I want.
School (IC)
Major: Library Sciences
Financial Assistance: Mostly paid for by family, but with a fairly decent amount of help from the school.
Are you going home for the holidays: Yes!
Any objects of Power you need faculty to be aware of/store: I have a magical diary, but it's not a big enchantment.
Any powers faculty need to handle: Nothing that needs to be handled.
Pets or familiars you need to house: I don't have a pet or familiar.
Powers (IC)
Abilities: I can live underwater perfectly well. I have a gift for languages - I don't know if it's a power or not. Now that I'm fully grown I'll only age when I want to. I can control water of up to a lake's size.
Are these hereditary: My species is water spirits, a form of fae wife for the women most of the time.
Do you know how to use these abilities: Mother taught me from a young age.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: I have dreams of an endless library...
Powers (OOC)
Abilities: Her gift for languages is a power. She gets it from her impending Destiny. The only one of her powers that she doesn't know she has is the ability to create about a bucket's worth of fresh water. She doesn't really have a lot going for her on the paranormal side of things, she's going to get through her Destiny with a lot of work mostly.
Do you know how to use these abilities: Her mother started teaching her how to use her powers from around the age of two. She's mostly got as good a grip on them as she's going to get, with the exception of creating water. When her gift for languages presented itself her parents enrolled her in as many language classes as she wanted. She's got a decent grip on Spanish, French, Latin, Russian, and Greek, and is fluent in Welsh, English, German, and Swedish.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: D is going to, one day, be snagged by the Ur-Library and pressed into service as it's Librarian. She'll spend the rest of her very, very long life trying to fill every library that exists in every world that exits with every book ever written. This will include many dangers, including being stuck in dungeons as she tries to fill the libraries of the people who created them, being snuck into wizard's homes, and so on and so forth.
What are your hopes for your character: She needs to open up, she needs to learn all the things that will keep her alive when her Destiny catches up with her. That includes making friends and allies on the fly, hunting, swords work, firearms training, offensive use of her ability to control water, how to create water, any cantrips that people can learn without much magical ability.

Steahl - Jo Raven
Character Name: Jo Raven
Identified Gender/pronouns: She/her
Species: Human
Age: 19 (Birthday Dec 12th)
Basics (IC)
Full Name: Josephine Elaine Ravensward, but I go by Jo. Jo Raven if you must.
Family: My father is Senator Richard Ravensward, my mother Irene Truholme-Ravensward. He is, naturally, a senator serving his fourth term in office and she is, respectively, a high profile real estate agent. They are rather concerned with the public image and dislike personal, emotional involvement with projects adopted to enhance said image. Projects such as child rearing for example. Neither has a continued influence in my life though likely they will attempt to take me to task for my errant departure at some point.
Friends: My rearing was such that did not encourage close ties, much less friendships. I had a public group of similarly bred children of an age I was expected to spend social time with during periods I was home but we were not, nor would anyone claim, we were comrades. Likewise my schools were competitive, even cutthroat, in nature and did not allow for such frivolous classifications.
Where did you grow up?: I was born in Boston, Massachusetts in the winter of 2001. Brief holidays from schooling were spent primarily on the family estate or wandering through Boston at odd hours in pursuit of research material for my writing.
What was your childhood like?: My early life can be best describe as a high velocity gauntlet of expectation and social engagement. My pre-schooling years had some alleviation in the form of governesses and nannies I was quite fond of but then came the boarding schools and the 'fast track'. My parents expected me to become a lawyer, as that would be useful, or failing that a CEO. My compatriots in schooling were badgers and wolverines in human guise more than happy to tear the throats of their competition if it meant one further mark in the proper areas. This is where I gained my habit of consuming coffee and a tendency to expand my sentences by no fewer than eleven words when in public.
What are your plans for the future?: Honestly at this point it seems I'm likely to become a reclusive and unknown author of a variety of publications. I suppose it would be nearly gothically appropriate to never allow photos of myself and dwell in and unknown location.
Personality (IC)
What do you feel are your greatest strengths: Mental Acuity, my vocabulary, and my honesty.
What are your greatest flaws: Most have described me as prickly, perhaps even acidic at times, though the general term among my nominal age group is 'a frigid bitch'. A delightful moniker I assure you. Perhaps the best summation would be the fact I am wary of the intent of others and tend to be reserved due to such.
How do you treat others: I prefer to think myself polite in tonality, if cool, and honest.
What do you look for in friends: I have any number of ideas for what friends should be like in my writings. It would be trite to casually pluck forth a handful of those definitions though instead of weighing the question properly. I could chart a character tree perhaps, some mythical plan for what an ideal person at my back or side should meet, but that would be naive. Perhaps best to say I'd very much enjoy the ability to trust another and will leave further traits up to those who meet that high measurement.
How do you handle confrontation: Verbally to a rather intense degree.
What is a day off like for you: I do not currently consider myself as having 'days off' such as most would ascribe. I am currently engaged, of my own accord, in a walking tour of Europe with no particular destination in mind and lacking a need to force myself to rest from such. When at leisure, perhaps, it would be a rather boring period for another to observe; had I slept the night prior I would wake, drink coffee, take a morning run, return for a meal taken while writing, refill my coffee mug an inordinate number of times throughout the day, and continue writing. I can be rather mono-focused when necessary. Come evening I'd likely take another run, and take a meal at a cafe or pub to observe others while writing once more.
Addictions: I have required coffee to function since a rather young age, and I suppose most would consider my penning of tales an addiction as well.
Are you a leader type, explain: Given experience in debate and defense of my statements I believe I can arrest attention, but I would not care to lead others if I must be honest.
Are you curious or cautious, explain: I am perhaps fatalistically driven to observe and record tales, whether this may be along safe paths or non, and given I am a nineteen year old engaged in walking a foreign land alone the argument could be made that my personal judgement on such may be terribly compromised. I assure anyone reading this application that it is still a far better fate than that which I left behind me.
School (IC)
Major:Literature, and likely Polisci
Financial Assistance: Unnecessary as my current engagement in walking has not eaten into the college fund I liberated from parental control upon leaving.
Are you going home for the holidays: Should I ever state an intent to do so I ask the faculty restrain and sedate me as I am likely ill.
Any objects of Power you need faculty to be aware of/store: I have an abundance of notebooks, journals, and pens but their power lies entirely within transcription of story and word and nothing more.
Any powers faculty need to handle: Unless a distractingly boundless imagination for prose and plot is a power, no.
Pets or familiars you need to house: Upon my travels I encountered and adopted a young raven with a mangled wing. A kind innkeeper was able to help me set the break, and I have since adopted the young bird and dubbed him 'Munin'. It is unlikely he will be able to properly fly once more so I will be providing him shelter and care.
Powers (IC)
Abilities: I implore the reviewer to see the above response, prior to discourse on Munin.
Are these hereditary: It is possible, there is a history of schizophrenia in the family lines and my own splintered tales could be the onset of such. Medically I will check in as necessary for testing in this regard.
Do you know how to use these abilities: I submit that having published works indicates that indeed, I can wrest a degree of sensibility from my own mind, but I do also admit that publishers may be fickle and being published in America is not precisely a Herculean task.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: I write upon such, not live them, if I were even, indeed, able.
Powers (OOC)
Abilities: Jo's bloodline is a bound one, a binding that has shifted into a curse over the generations of having no idea what they are. Once upon a time the triune Celtic goddess, The Morrigan, was bound into a bloodline of her people, to prevent their descent into battle madness after the plagues. The Ravensward's were to continue the work of aspects of this power, gathering the tales of the fallen, seeing they are remembered as such should be for their peace and rest, and to see information for vengeance reaches those it need must. In return for this service they were protected, safe from influence by the dead. Neither undead, ghost, or stray creature in their employ could influence a Ravensward.
In times past this led to family in the constabulary, detectives, and yes writers, but breeding and moving of the family to America shifted things. The stories began to be viewed as madness, that crazy sibling or aunt who lived in the attic, no context or grounding. Likewise the protections twisted as well, leading to Jo who literally cannot perceive the dead at all. She cannot see dead bodies even if she trips over them, she can't see a vampire even if they try to bite her, and that realization will be terrifying for her. The dead still cannot influence her, read her mind, or in the case of vampires or the like, manage to feed on her, but that does not mean she cannot be terrorized by the invisible and silent.
What she CAN do is transcribe the lives of the fallen. Everywhere she goes entire lifetimes of stories, even mundane lives, fill her mind. She simply sees it as an overactive imagination and the fact she immerses herself heavily in literature when she should have been learning social interactions. She's wrong, and it will be a blow to her ego to be advised of this fact. She'll recover, she has a purpose in her ability, but it not being her own works will be bitter for a while.
Do you know how to use these abilities: She has a frightening degree of willpower and can actually keep the stories straight in her mind; no mean feat in and of itself. Beyond that, no.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: No, she is not a Hero, she's not Fated, she's bound and it'll be good for her bloodline to remember that.
What are your hopes for your character: I intend her to get a better grasp of what she is, and acceptance of not being quite bog standard human. Eventually, far in the future, she should breed something magical back into her line to try to sort the bindings back into their proper shapes.
Re: Steahl - Jo Raven
Jo has been assigned to floor 1A (1st floor, tower A quad), their roommate is TBD.

Steahl - Dip Clarke
Character Name: Dip Clarke
Identified Gender/pronouns: Male/he/him
Species: Naga
Age: 47 (equivalent to human early 20's)
Basics (IC)
Full Name: Dip Thomas Clarke, my sister likes to call me Dippin Dots, please don't do that unless you get me ice cream.
Family: My father is Thomas Roderic Clarke, he was a doctor in his Majesty's service during the British age of imperialism, and unlike many of the foreign idiots (mom's words) he actually went to help when there was rumor of fevers and possibly plague in a far village in India. Mom, Deepa, was already there and helping, and they bonded over a love of medicine and his desire to properly LEARN more methods than he'd been trained to in London. It took father getting recalled to England due to WWI, a long distance relationship, letters, and him getting himself SHOT to get mom out of India, and then they got married etc etc. Yes, my sister Karishma, I call her Kari or MAAAAAH when I'm annoyed at her (she's Collett's snake!), was born BEFORE they were married, it's not a big deal in mom's culture, dad's head near exploded I'm told though when he woke up in the military hospital and was shown pictures of her. Then she and mom officially became Clarkes!
Friends: I kind of facebook stalk some people I went to school with? It's a problem when you're not obviously forty or fifty like they are though so I just kinda glance at their lives? Some on again off again penpals from the clinic though, Amanda is a mer-something, she came in dehydrated once and we write when we both remember! And there's Tandiss, he's part goat and he taught me Latin through the mail?
Where did you grow up?: My family moves every twenty years, so I was born in Omaha, Nebraska, moved to Cancun, Mexico, and the family home is now in Nepal, India. Mostly Omaha and Cancun.
What was your childhood like?: As most childhoods go it was probably quite nice? I adore my family, they're good people, and my parents have worked the underground clinic circuit since before I was born. That's a loose affiliation of healer and doctor types for the less-than-public community out there, part of why we move so predictably, cycling doctors so no one notices unaging types. I was a surprise in the in many senses; unplanned (they'd been hoping for a hundred years or so between kids), my father had really been hoping for a human when they did catch on, and my mother had hoped I'd get her pipe snake coloring. No dice I came out all black and white barred king cobra, so with my sister that's two poisonous kids for a flexible mom and a man who had to do emergency research on 'can my kid kill other kids if we forget to milk his fangs before school?'. Thankfully I'm too young for a full hood, mom thinks I'll get that when I lose my legs entirely.
Anyway, technically I'm a just over fifty years younger than my sister but she was usually home and I grew up as the annoying kid brother following her around and hissing at boyfriends like a doof, and for a while I had a rep for being able to leave elementary school to go find her at the nearby highschool. It was important we learn to socialize as mom put it though so eventually they tied my butt to a seat in primary and I stuck it out in your usual wave of middling B student and gym notes that kept me and my fragile legs benched during heavier sports.
I think of my whole childhood that's my least favorite part, I was a twitchy thing so if I got surprised I could snap into tail and that wasn't good, especially in Nebraska public schools, so I had to pretend I had the precursor to brittle bone instead of chasing other kids. The most AMUSING school memory was mom having to turn me upside down and shake me daily before going to the bus because I started taking my pearl to classes as show and tell and she was afraid I'd start letting other kids borrow it. To be fair she was probably right, I was really social and enjoying giving people things, through the Pog phase, to trading card games, I passed stuff out! It took dad locking my little bauble in his medical safe for years before I finally got it through my head to keep it safe.
Yes my sister's got locked away too, though hers was taken when she started dating, naturally. We can get swept away by nice smells and warm skin and she had a lot of crushes. To the point my parents considered sending her to mom's home village to grow up, it was almost isolated temple levels there (we visit) and she'd have gone utterly nuts. Not so secretly I think I hissed at most her dates because my dad encouraged it. Sticking to that story!
Anyway, right, school. I switched into Highschool when we moved to Cancun, and also took up homeschooling not only to learn another language but so mom could start stuffing basics in my head for the touch healing that we all get at puberty. Any naga can help others to a degree, it's what we are, so basics for everybody! Unlike with my sister though the lessons took better and I realized I was probably going to go into medical officially so I could do things better than just slapping some racial power on a wound. Kids teased me in highschool because of the doctor's note thing, still, but Mexico was still a lot of fun and the festivals were amazing, so can't really complain! We'd just gotten settled in the clinic home in Nepal when I started looking at colleges even though my parents wanted me to wait a few years but hey, I can go home on holidays!
What are your plans for the future?: Get a medical degree or two, maybe three, take up the family business!
Personality (IC)
What do you feel are your greatest strengths: I'm tenacious! Or annoying depending on your point of view! I know being a little brother best so I kind of default to that when people get tense or awkward?
What are your greatest flaws: I'm hissy? I HAVE NEVER BITTEN ANYONE I SWEAR but sometimes I seem to convey the fact I will? I can be a bit distractable when I get too cold, I'm not a proper snake, no torpor or death, but I get cranky? I don't honestly think I've pointed at anything in my life as a true flaw I need to fix?
How do you treat others: I try for genial and cheerful in most cases, tends to put people at ease, but if there's injury or bleeding I can get fussy and that can freak people out?
What do you look for in friends: A willingness to hang out and watch stupid movies or play games at stupid hours? I get along with most to one degree or another so that's my main criteria, though the 'being able to be publicly a snake' might be nice?
How do you handle confrontation: Stillness, hissing, really heavy debate about whether wrapping a tail around someone is as good an idea as it seems?
What is a day off like for you: I'm a pre-med student so I do a LOT of studying even on my days off? Vegetarian light morning meal, hot shower, probably hanging out in common rooms or libraries? Lunch tends to be as I remember, another hot shower or bath, curling up with movies and books, protein heavy and hot dinner tends to knock me out to sleep within an hour or so?
Addictions: Russian Dwarf Hamsters. They're just so...twitchy. In all the best ways? And crunchy! I am NOT allowed in pet shops anymore and I will NOT have a cage on campus but I really hope my dorm mates don't have rodents?
Are you a leader type, explain: I can take lead in medical emergencies! I do not know enough about most other emergency types to try though, that'd be stupid and LEAD to injuries probably!
Are you curious or cautious, explain: Curious, hands down! It's a lot more interesting?
School (IC)
Major: Medical
Financial Assistance: Nope I'm good!
Are you going home for the holidays: Absolutely, unless they come to Germany to vacation for a bit!
Any objects of Power you need faculty to be aware of/store: My pearl. During high stress periods it may need to be stored because if I end up stress cuddling someone it should not be gifted away?
Any powers faculty need to handle: As long as public snake is okay, no?
Pets or familiars you need to house: My sister gave me a one of those window, solar powered dancing sunflower things, I call it Richard.
Powers (IC)
Abilities: Naga racial abilities (see below for in depth).
Are these hereditary: Yes! In cases of mixed marriages there is generally a 75% chance of naga children, and both of us children are naga.
Snake body: Nagas of my type do not have a 'family' snake type, we can be born any type of snake out there. We grow our entire lives, and up to about two hundred years old can hold human legs with varying degrees of difficulty. Currently my coils are about twenty five feet long, and I can hold legs for hours at need. When shifted though my skin darkens and I losing all forms of facial or lower body hair (which really annoys me), banding and scaling goes to mid waist, and then starts again from the elbows down when shifted. I has retractable fangs and can unhinge my jaw in this form, as well as slit-pupiled eyes. Once I lose my leg ability I'll start growing a hood as my snake type is King Cobra and will likely lose the rest of my hair (not cool).
Healing touch: Nagas as a race can push power into wounds to aid bodies in healing. Mine is a bit more directed than most though given my major and practice.
Healing blood/bone: Nagas of my type have been hunted in centuries past and harvested for healing elixirs; blood and ground bone can be as potent as directed healing as well as cure most poisons. I PREFER NOT TO BLEED ON PEOPLE AND KEEP MY BONES PLEASE.
Poison Resistance: Most nagas are immune to common venoms, and scales/shed skin can be used to house venom safely without dissolving.
Limited Immortality: Nagas do not age conventionally, we can, in theory, live forever, though we can be killed. The longer lived the longer tails grow, most truly elder naga live in seclusion or in temples aware of their species, those like my mom who work in the wider world have some heavy illusion charms purchased from those who can make them when appearing in public.
PEARL: Perhaps the most powerful, and most vulnerable aspect of a naga is our pearls. This gem grows naturally in each naga and usually is held in a hand when born. This stone can share a naga's healing and near immortality with another, or utterly destroy a naga if damaged. Usually, in good cases, a pearl is given to a life mate (my dad has mom's pearl actually in his shoulder in an old bullet wound). In less healthy cases a naga can be enslaved through holding or command of their pearl, tainted or twisted through corruption of their pearl, and the like. All the fun nightmare stories really, all of them!
Do you know how to use these abilities: The basics yes! I'm working on refining my healing abilities through education and practice?
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: I run toward screaming if that's any indicator? People could be hurt!
Powers (OOC)
Abilities: See above, Dip had the full primer growing up and that is the listing in it's entirety!
Do you know how to use these abilities: He has little to no experience using his naga form fully on a day to day basis, much less his poison, he doesn't like to think of himself as aggressive so hasn't worked to train his body to BE aggressive. The downside of this being his IS an aggressive and protective snake and instinct can and will overrule him. AS far as healing, he's better than a dabbler, less than a proper doctor naga currently.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: He has some heroic instincts, but they are all along the lines of Doctors Without Borders and the like, HELP BECAUSE YOU CAN not because you can go fight a dragon? He can and will go into places sane people won't to help with plague, or war atrocities, etc.
What are your hopes for your character: I hope for him to adjust to a life NOT with his family all the time, eventually he will be mostly out on his own and he's VERY family oriented currently. It bleeds over into his friendships and they're likely to be surrogates when he gets homesick.

Souji - Teddy Matheson
Character Name: Teddy Matheson
Identified Gender/pronouns: male he/him
Species: Werebear
Age: 22
Basics (IC)
Full Name: James Theodore Matheson, but family and friends call me “Teddy” and yeah, I knows the joke there, wha? Was my grandpa’s name.
Family: Mudder (Mary), half-sisters (Carrie and Joann), Cousins (Michael and Jesse (twins)), and an older half-brother (David). Me sisters and brother are all on the mainland, carving out territories of their own, starting their own sleuth. Cousins are staying with Mudder and me for a time, getting a bit of learning in.
Friends: A few of the fellas I knew in superior I got on with, but we weren’t closer than occasional parties and school events. Mostly kept to the family. Plenty of work to do outside of school wha?
Where did you grow up?: Born and raised in Newfoundland, just along the coast by Deadman’s Bay.
What was your childhood like?: A standard upbringing, I would say. We runs a bed and breakfast, small, but cozy small, and raise sheep and goats. Sheep for wool, goats for milk and meat. Offering that real rural life some of the CFAs want, without being too rural wha? Since we’re all sleuth, it’s a close family. Mudder is in charge, keeping the order and taking in some that mights not have a place to go yet. Unlike some others, we’re part of the human community and so we alls went to school and learned to behave wha? Acts like proper people, so we fits in better. Gotta be safe and all, you learn that right young. Most other sleuths tend to live as far as possible from humans, but me great grandma came here back in the day from farther north and the land’s been ours now since. The settlement sort of grew up around it and instead of leaving, they all decided it’d be better to fit in. Fishing and hunting was good, still not many humans and no other shifters round on our side of the island. So we were close growing up, but still taught around humans. Dave left when I was right young, so mostly me sisters and me in the den wha?
What are your plans for the future?: I suppose I’ll wind up going home after getting me degree and just picking up the business. Me sisters have headed out to start their own families now and me mudder isn’t getting any younger… I want to write a book though. Maybe a few. For children mostly, maybe adults. She wants me to have that worldly experience though, and you need a degree these days proper wha?
Personality (IC)
What do you feel are your greatest strengths: I think it’s that I don’t much get crooked about things. Easy going. And I’ve been told I’m good to talk to. I likes to listen to folks.
What are your greatest flaws: Hahaha! Comes to who you ask. Me family would say I’m too wrapped up in me head. I think I’m probably a bit of a, eh, I’m a bit scattered yeah.
How do you treat others: Golden rule wha? You treats folks as you want to be treated. You don’t have to be friends with everyone, but everyone deserves a bit of kindness when you can.
What do you look for in friends: Sense of humor! And knowing hows to have a bit of kind fun, wha?
How do you handle confrontation: I don’t much care for a fight, but as me mudder says: “Teddy! Ya don’ go startin’ fights now b’y. But ya damn well stop ‘em.” If I can talk down a confrontation, I’s happy with that.
What is a day off like for you: Ah, a day off isn’t something you get much of when you works a farm. I guess I’d be out camping, or maybe going to see a movie with the guys from the village. Sleeping in if I can, that’s always a right fine start to the day b’y.
Addictions: No, not as I know, wha?
Are you a leader type, explain: Luh, if I take over the land, I’d have to be. Defend territory and all. But I’m not for being pushy wha? I don’t think I’d make a good leader really.
Are you curious or cautious, explain: Both? Can I say both? Luh, it’s healthy to have the mix of the two. Curious to learn, caution when you don’t want your nose in a trap.
School (IC)
Major: Literature/Business
Financial Assistance: Without assistance and some work study, couldn’t afford the schooling, wha?
Are you going home for the holidays: Nah, too expensive. Besides, that’s what the post is for.
Any objects of Power you need faculty to be aware of/store: Oh no b’y. I’m just me.
Any powers faculty need to handle: I suppose, if I get the blood up and go berserk, should probably be put down right quick, but can’t see getting that riled up wha? If I do, though, just in case, would be best to take me down quick and clean. If I don’t die, then I’ll sleep real deep for a week, maybe a week and a half, and be right as you please when I wake up.
Pets or familiars you need to house: No.
Powers (IC)
Abilities: Luh, I’m a werebear. So, for us, we have three states. In this state, human-shaped, I’m maybe a little faster, a little stronger. I have a little more stamina than a human of sames size and health, wha? Then there’s the full-bear. Like with the human-shape, this one looks like a polar bear, but a little too big, a little too fast, a little too strong, wha? And the third is in between. Big, fuck-off bear monster. Can walk upright or on all fours, has thumbs, wha? And is strong. Fast. Don’t always think past the fight and the blood… We can take down bull moose with nary a problem and me cousin Jesse, well, the twins are with us because they decided to squat a car on the mainland and got sent to me mudder for a bit of lessons. Just because you can squat a car, don’t mean you should squat a car.
When the blood’s up and the berserk takes over though… Well, takes a lot of damage in that middle form to really slow us down. We heal fast, but we’s not invincible wha? We can wear out like any other flesh n blood.
The full forms, they’re fine and easy enough to shift to, but it takes work and energy for the middle shift and you don’t always have the right mind for controlling it. Have to have a proper sleep and a big meal after that mess. Prefer to shift without clothes, but clothes don’t stop the shift, no matter what some says. Just uncomfortable to get all tangled up and it’s not on to ruin perfectly fine clothes, wha? Mudder would have me ears if I ruined a fine coat without good call.
Are these hereditary: Yeah. It’s not the kind of therianthropy that can be transmitted excepts from parent to cub. It’s a dominant gene though, so there’s a good chance that anybody born to a bear and a human will be a bear. Not always though. Gots a cousin that’s human.
Do you know how to use these abilities: Luh, I’m still working on that middle shift. It’s tough and me mudder makes it look easy, but with practice I’ll get better wha? For now, I usually save it for emergencies, so I’ve not done it in a while. Otherwise, been a bear my whole life wha? Know how to shift back and forth, no troubles. Full control there.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: Ah, I hope not. None of that kind of attention for me thanks.
Powers (OOC)
Abilities: Teddy is a werebear, with his family specifically taking on the form most similar to a polar bear. This breed of therianthrope is not contagious and as such, they cannot turn any other creature into something like themselves. A bite or a scratch from them results in a wound that mundane medical care can treat.
They are capable of shifting between human, animal, and an in-between “war” or “berserker” shape, though the latter requires a great deal of energy to change into and often will result in a shortened form of hibernation lasting about a week after use.
While in a human shape, they tend towards being roughly on par in strength to olympian-level strongmen and women and are a bit faster than the average human of a similar size, but speed is not really their strong suit. Rather, all forms trend towards the upper limits of strength and stamina. The secondary form, that of a full bear, can almost pass as a normal member of the non-shifting species to a layperson, but as they are considerably larger than ones on record, anybody more familiar with the species phenotype might be confused. As an example, Teddy, in bear form, looks much like a polar bear, with the white fur, and black nose and eyes, but he weighs in at just over 1,000 kg and stands 1.7 meters at the shoulder when on all fours and 3.7 meters tall on his hind legs. So, like a polar bear, but bigger. This form is also incredibly strong and considered by many to be as dangerous physically as the war form, and would be even more so were it not for the berserker rage that can often come with the war form.
The war form is capable of moving between a quadruped and biped form, and is capable of using tools, but there is the “berserker fog” that can take ahold of a shifter in this state that limits mental faculties, reducing the world down to battle and blood. This form is the most dangerous, particularly because it can be an uncontrolled change and thus be unpredictable, and sightings and legends of this form tend to be spoken of in old folk tales as a true monster.
Teddy’s kind are also fast healers and are immune to a number of illnesses and curses. While magic can have an effect on them, it tends to either be a limited or delayed effect or can require more energy to be used to get the same result.
Do you know how to use these abilities: Teddy can shift easily between human and bear and has complete control over both forms. The war form, however, takes a lot of effort and he isn’t as practiced in using and controlling it as he really should be. He is aware of that lack of control and works to not change into that shape.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: No, though he will, as an adult, wind up running a halfway house of sorts for wayward therianthropes and other shape-shifting beings after expanding his family territory, which might lead him to interact with hero sorts.
What are your hopes for your character: Teddy needs to learn to be more comfortable expressing his own personal desires and he needs to learn to accept the “big bear monster” that’s part of him. His mother sent him away to learn to be himself and to accept all aspects of who he is and learn to be worthy of inheriting her territory. He also needs to learn more about other paranormal sorts to better his ability to manage the territory and sleuth. And make new friends!

Souji - Lukas Meadows
Character Name: Lukas
Identified Gender/pronouns: male he/him
Species: Centaur
Age: 19
Basics (IC)
Full Name: Lukas Meadows
Family: There’s my mom, Paige, and my dad, Jarrod, my little sister Rachel, my aunt Theresa, and my cousin Aaron and there’s also Jordan; she’s from another band and decided to join ours a few years ago. We’re the smallest band in the herd though. The whole herd is pretty small when compared to the stories my folks have told me. Our herd is about 60 strong, but the herds back in the day would be hundreds of members. So I’ve been told.
Friends: Katrin and her twin brother Aldwin are from the witch family, the Paleward family I mean, that owns the land our herd lives on. They’re pretty much my age and once I was old enough to be away from my mom, we all got attached to each other. We’d get into trouble a lot, but I guess our parents figured it was better to have friends than keep us separated. Besides, I think we all snuck out plenty of times to play and I’ll bet that got annoying fast. They’ve got their own responsibilities now though, and can’t travel until they’re done with their formal training, but they’re demanding lots of letters and gifts from overseas. It was their parents that convinced my mom to let me go school so far away, so I owe them those letters and gifts.
Where did you grow up?: Phillips County, Montana in the United States. We have a large territory of about 22,000 acres we share with the Palewards, a family of magic users. We rely on them as our contact with the outside world, and they rely on us to manage the land and the other flora and fauna around.
What was your childhood like?: It was nice. I was the only foal born in my year though, so once I became a yearling, Katrin and Aldwin were the only children closest to me in terms of development, so I wound up kind of bonding with them. It was weird having friends that only had two legs, but we managed. We used to run around in the woods a lot and their mom and dad would let me come in to play and watch movies or listen to music with them until I got too big to fit indoors. That was kind of sad and not just because I got a bit stuck in the doorway and was terrified I’d break something, but because I wasn’t sure then if we could continue to hang out.
But, we still have movie nights. It’s just now in the barn by the house instead. We hang out there instead of in the main house these days and they keep an eye on my instruments, so they don’t get all warped or broken by being outside or while I’m out working. I probably spent more time with the Palewards than I did with the herd now that I think about it.
Since we were always hanging out as kids, I wound up being part of their homeschooling too, so, I’m kind of proud to say that I’m the best reader and writer in the herd. I also got pretty good at math, once Aldwin started to get into it too, but now he’s way better at it than I am. Katrin was more into reading, so she let me share her library card and she’d check out books for me to read. I had to read them either in the house or in the barn though, since I didn’t want them to get dirty and get her into trouble with the library. We would often make up stories about the stories we read and act them out. I’ve lost count of the heroic epic adventures we’d have before we had to go back to our respective parents for dinner. She also had a few video game systems. I don’t remember their names, but her and Aldwin would play a few different games. I remember one with rescuing a princess and a few that involved racing in cars. I was not good at any of them though. I much preferred to watch them play, but I did like the one with the green guy and the fairies. I got pretty far in that one until Aldwin accidentally lost the game. My parents and the twins parents would play games too sometimes, usually board games which, as a colt, I thought were super boring. They seemed to play just to talk and when you’re a kid and you want to play with your friends, talking is the worst.
The only homeschooling classes I couldn’t join in were when they would practice magic. That was when I started to learn music. Mr. Paleward could play the guitar and started to teach me on an old Gibson when I was about 7 years old. Things took off from there I guess. I wanted to learn all I could about music and my mom and dad encouraged it. I think they felt weird that I spent a lot of time with the Paleward family, but they said they were proud of me for learning new things.
What are your plans for the future?: I’d like to write music that could be performed for big crowds. Maybe even perform on a stage myself. That would be amazing.
Personality (IC)
What do you feel are your greatest strengths: My outlook on life. I think I’m a pretty positive guy and I can find the good in almost anything and anyone.
What are your greatest flaws: Oh, probably being kind of shy around strangers. New people make me kind of nervous. Doesn’t really go with my dream of performing for people, but I’m hoping that being around a bunch of strangers might help me with that.
How do you treat others: I was raised to treat others with kindness and respect, so I think I hold to that pretty well.
What do you look for in friends: Common interests and a sense of humor I guess. I don’t have many friends outside of the twins right now, but i’m excited to make new ones.
How do you handle confrontation: Oh, I’m not good at that. I’m kind of shy. Definitely not going to be in charge of any band of my own and that kind of requires conflict.
What is a day off like for you: I always have something to do I guess, so days off aren’t exactly a thing. But, if I’m done with chores, I’m probably practicing my music. I like to play guitar for my friends or my family.
Addictions: Peppermints. I am so easily bribed with peppermints… I will eat a whole bag if I can, even if I get sick later. I try to eat them in moderation though. Try being the goal anyway.
Are you a leader type, explain: Not at all. Just the idea of trying to lead anybody ties my stomach up in knots.
Are you curious or cautious, explain: I’m pretty cautious in new situations, but curious enough to want to investigate. It’s gotten me into trouble plenty of times and I still get teased over the time I tried to catch a frog and got stuck in the marshy part of the lake.
School (IC)
Major: Music
Financial Assistance: Yes please. The Palewards have done so much to help me get to this point, I’d be happy to take on any work too if possible.
Are you going home for the holidays: I would like to visit, but I don’t think it would work out. Travelling here was tough enough. I can write letters back home.
Any objects of Power you need faculty to be aware of/store: I don’t think so? I’ve got the glamour necklace that I came with, but it doesn’t work now that I’m here.
Any powers faculty need to handle: Nope.
Pets or familiars you need to house: No.
Powers (IC)
Abilities: I’m a centaur? So, I guess … centaur abilities? I’m fast, and pretty strong, so those kinds of abilities I guess. I’ve got good hearing and eyesight?
Are these hereditary: Well, yeah. Centaurs are born from other centaurs.
Do you know how to use these abilities: Been one my whole life, so I think I’ve got a solid handle on my body.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: A what? No to both.
Powers (OOC)
Abilities: As a centaur, Lukas is generally faster and stronger than an average human, and has a stronger sense of smell, sight, and hearing than humans. He also has a currently unknown magical ability that ties into his musical abilities. It’s a slowly building power that, once fully realized, will be capable of enchanting listeners a la the Pied Piper of Hamlin. Lukas is unaware of this power, but the magical family that lives with the centaur herd recognized the beginning of the power taking shape and insisted on him getting some kind of appropriate training. Untrained, it could be a dangerous magical ability.
As centaurs are not known to express magical ability of their own, it’s also a mystery why Lukas has this particular gift, but it may have something to do with the long bloodline of this herd being tied to the old tribe of Kentauroi that were said to be sheltered and given protections by Poseidon.
Bit of history/cultural knowledge that might be important:
Centaur herds are similar in many ways to wild horse herds, with the herd broken up into smaller bands, usually made up of family groups. Unlike wild horses, the idea of a harem, with a single male in charge of a group of females, has long since fallen out of favor and most romantic and/or mated pairings tend to be monogamous. As centaurs are not (usually) magical, they don’t have any magic of their own, but will form contracts or bonds with magical races or families in order to gain access to glamours or protective magic in exchange for physical labor or protection.
Centaurs are often very insular, tending to have limited contact with the outside world beyond their contracted protectors, but as the outside world has come closer and closer, modern herds tend to interact a bit more and are familiar with the cultural norms and even technology associated with the local mundane populations. Though this contact is usually through the intermediary of the magical beings they contract with, as they still tend to prefer to perceived safety of remaining together.
Education for a young centaur is usually centered around learning the cultural norms and legends of the race, particularly focusing on the massacre said to have happened thousands of years ago that nearly wiped all of them out. This legend serves as a warning against the outside world, often reinforced with tales of death that comes to young foals that wander too far from home. Social pressure keeps the young in line as well, though due to Lukas' lack of regular socialization with others his age, this pressure never really took hold in his mind. Other education includes traditional medicine and land management as well as basic animal husbandry. More specialized education comes in the form of apprenticeships, such as learning to smith (important for maintaining tools and hooves) or carpentry (Lukas’ father is a carpenter that had planned on teaching his son the skill. That didn’t happen).
The Meadows band is part of the larger Laurent herd, but the land they occupy formally belongs to the Paleward family of witches. The Paleward family and the Laurent herd originally had an agreement in the mountains of France that dated back to the 1700s, but the draw of the New World brought them to all to the wilds of this new land together. Over time, the herd dwindled down to its current state of less than 60 members, but still remains one of the largest stable herds in North America.
In modern days, the Laurent herd continues to manage the lands purchased by the Paleward family in exchange for glamours keeping out the mundane world and protection from mundane eyes. The herd largely continues to live on the land itself, but, via the Paleward family, has access to information about the outside world as well as modern technology and science. If they have a need to move about the human world, a temporary glamour can be used to hide the form of the centaur and allow them to move among the mundane world for a time as though they were a horse. Attempting to look human is a much tougher order and doesn’t always work out, so instead, most trips into the nearby towns are usually made as a horse. The horse might bite so don’t touch the horse (the glamour doesn’t always extend to touch).
Lukas has experience being around non-centaur people, mostly the Paleward family, but had only experienced things outside of the property through the twins Katrin and Aldwin. His closeness with the Paleward family left him a bit developmentally and socially separated from the larger herd, but continued to be supported by his immediate family and band, giving, to his mind, the best of both world. His parents were terrified of him travelling, not only because he would be so far from home and herd, but also because getting him overseas would be incredibly difficult. The Paleward family is an old family and very skilled in what they do, however, and, after convincing the Meadows band that this was in the best interest of everyone, really, they crafted a stronger glamour specifically for Lukas.
The glamour allows him to appear human: two legs, smaller size, no mane, etc. as well as fool even general physical contact. There are caveats to the glamour though: one, it will only work for Lukas while traveling to the school. Once at the school, and after removing the necklace, Lukas will need another glamour placed on the item in order to appear human again; and two, the effects cause, at best, discomfort and, at most, physical pain to Lukas. Like the legend of the mermaid granted legs, each step he took with two legs felt like needles over his skin, and everything felt too tight and too hot, but it would work and fool even physical touch. Learning to walk on two legs was also difficult, even without pain, and thus he wound up using a forearm crutch to aid in balance.
Do you know how to use these abilities: Almost all of his abilities are physical, save for one, and thus he’s very familiar with his own body and abilities. That one other skill is a magical ability he isn’t even aware of and thus has no idea how to use it. He is an excellent musician otherwise, familiar with most plucked and strummed stringed instruments and preferring the lyre and guitar.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: He is fated to return magic to his bloodline and train the new magic as it wakes up in his herd.
What are your hopes for your character: To get a handle on his new ability and come to realize he can be a leader in his own right. And make friends!
