Game Overview
Schutzhafen is an all original character game set in a nexus of original worlds. Only original characters from original worlds are accepted, no fandom characters or fandom worlds. Any kind of paranormal entity, from humans with powers to complete non-humans, can be applied for so long as they:
1 - Are sentient and capable of communication with other characters. This does not need to be verbal communication psychic speech, sign language, or something else is fine.
There is an enchantment on the grounds that allows all sentient life to communicate with each other. Even if you don’t know a language, you can understand someone who uses it. This includes sign language. People who are blind will still have problems with sign language.
This does not extend to the town.
The school requires the taking of German as a language course in order to communicate. Those without human speech will be taught German sign language.
2 - Are not “out” as paranormal. Paranormal abilities are hidden and highly secretive - people whose powers are known will not receive admission to Schutzhafen because that could out the rest of the student populace. A few friends/family members can know about the powers, but “open” secrets or completely “open” lives are not admitted. No superheroes. People with “superhero” powers are fine. Characters do not need to know about their powers prior to admission, they can find out about them as or after they are admitted to the school. The player, however, must give a rundown of the power set in the application.
The Team
The moderators are Steahl and Madb, who can be reached through the NPC journal, via the Discord Channel, or through their own personal discords.
Steahl and Madb live in Pacific Standard Time (UTC/GMT-8). They work long hours, but will respond to things as soon as they can. |
General Game Setting Notes
Schutzhafen is a PG13 setting. This is an all-ages game for players of any age, while student characters are limited to the 16-200 spread at time of application.
Any non-PG13 posts must be on a player’s journal and locked.
If this post is to be considered “game canon” the NPC journal must be included in that lock group so that the mods can give it a look over and be sure that it stays within game bounds. We don’t really care what the subject is, provided it is not torture/death scenarios, but we need to check. Anything the NPC journal cannot see is, by definition, non-game canon and should not be referred to in game threads.
The campus is not dry. Alcohol will be relatively easy to acquire and there is no punishment for consumption thereof...in moderation. Characters who engage in public intoxication will find themselves facing administrative discipline. Probably the Alumni running you ragged.
Posts should be written in third person, past tense, prose formatting. A reasonable effort must be made to use proper grammar and spelling. Perfection is not required, use of chatspeak is not allowed.
Phones, internet, and email are available, however this is not a network game. There is no campus wide network. Players may have their characters start a What’sApp, Skype, Facetime, whatever with a specific group, but there is no way for a student to message every other student.
A discord channel is the official off-Dreamwidth method of mod communication. Moderator announcements will be made in both the OOC community and on the Discord channel.
Mods can be accessed through Discord, email, or journal messaging.
There will be three types of regularly run moderator posts
Two “class posts” (see “activity check”.)
One “therapy/counselling” post, non-mandatory
A monthly “orientation” post/mingle post for new characters to meet old in a semi-structured way, non-mandatory
Players can request NPC involvement in threads even if it is not a mod post/event post.
Ex. Player A and B are in the library, player B requests the Nix drop by and remind them of the rules if they are being loud.
Posts must include
Who
What
Where
When
Summary
Warnings
Cut
Character tags
Mod posts will include “mod run post” in the title
Player posts are not required to have titles
Ideas for new classes/activity check posts are always welcome
Player run plots are highly encouraged. To start the process please send the mod journal a message including
What the plot is
When it will run
What type of NPCs will be needed
What the intent to achieve/victory scenario is
Plots must be opt-IN only, but must have opportunity for all players to be involved in.
There will be two ongoing and perpetual NPC posts.
